All About Cleansing!

All About Cleansing!
We all know that proper cleansing is the foundation of skincare, right? But what about "double cleansing"? Is it really necessary, or just a waste of time and money? Double cleansing can be helpful in certain situations, but it's not essential for everyone. It mainly depends on your skin type and the makeup or sunscreen products you use. Let's help you determine if double cleansing is right for you.

Is Double Cleansing Really Necessary?

Double cleansing involves using cleansing oils or balms to remove makeup and sunscreen first, followed by finishing with a regular water-based cleanser.
Not everyone needs to double cleanse. Most cleansing products can remove light makeup, sunscreen, and impurities. However, for long-lasting sunscreen or heavy makeup, double cleansing helps remove them more effectively.
For oily skin, if a single cleanse doesn’t feel enough and stronger cleansers leave your skin tight and dry, double cleansing can help. Using two gentle cleansers is better than one harsh, drying cleanser.

Do dermatologists recommend double cleansing?

Some dermatologists recommend double cleansing, while others are cautious due to concerns that excessive cleansing can irritate the skin, cause dryness, and lead to peeling. The key is using gentle, non-drying cleansers. Most dermatologists recommend double cleansing if the products are mild and non-irritating.

Can double cleansing be effective with just one cleanser used twice?

It’s fine to double cleanse with the same product twice. However, generally, for double cleansing, it's recommended to use an oil, balm, or lotion-based product for the first cleanse to dissolve makeup and sunscreen without stripping the skin. For the second cleanse, a water-based gel or foaming cleanser is best to wash away impurities.

Is double cleansing necessary for sunscreen?

Double cleansing is not necessary for everyone who wears sunscreen, but it can help in certain situations. For example, mineral sunscreens (containing titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide) and waterproof formulas tend to stick more to the skin, and double cleansing can effectively remove them
If sunscreen is not properly removed, it can clog pores, cause breakouts, and make the skin appear dull. It's best to cleanse thoroughly before bed.

Do dry skin types need double cleansing?

Dry skin can also double cleanse, but it's not essential. It's a personal choice, as dry skin is more prone to dryness. Make sure to use gentle, moisturizing, and hydrating cleansers.
